Firebird Event: Reader Reactions

Hi Everyone!

Today I have for you a few reader reactions for A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray!

So I had been on the edge of my seat eager to read A Thousand Pieces of You from the second I saw the amazing cover (which may sound a bit shallow but can you blame me? I mean LOOK AT THE PRETTY)

However I was so surprised at how much I LOVED this book. My first reaction when I finished was:

I need a higher rating than 5 stars because A Thousand Pieces of You is PHENOMENAL! I am in awe of this book and Claudia Gray. I can't even put into words the amazingness of this book!! This book caused a major book hangover for me!

But I have also seen a few awesome reader reactions out there that I have to share.

Amber from Me, My Shelf and I was tweeting about how much she loved ATPoY

-Thank you Amber for these awesome tweets!

Shaheen from Speculating on Specific also posted a brilliant Early Bird Review and now an awesome full review of this amazing book (

"The protagonist, Marguerite, is super-awesome. She’s smart and brave and caring. I think readers will love her. She has awesome relationships with her family and friends, and she’s kind of become my hero."

-Thank you Shaheen for your lovely words!

I asked Amanda Diaz (Publicity Manager at HarperCollins Children's Books) for her views on ATPoY

"From the first chapter of A Thousand Pieces of You, I found myself wondering ‘where have you been my whole reading life?’. It was like the bookish equivalent of true love. This story is a fast-paced, clever cinematic thriller that manages to be intelligent, swoonworthy and action-packed all at once. And it has the best possible cover.  I can’t wait for readers to discover the world of Marguerite Caine."

-Thank you Amanda for sharing your fabulous reader reaction!

Also Author Jennifer Armentrout gave A Thousand Pieces of You 5 stars!

I hope you have all enjoyed these reader reactions! Don't forget to enter the amazing giveaway from HarperCollins Australian (Between The Covers)

(Also there is A Thousand Pieces of You Blog Tour happening right now! Make sure you check it out)

Firebird Event: A Thousand Pieces of You Playlist

Hi Everyone!

I’m so sorry for the lack of posts, university assignments got in the way and then I lost all my profile posts (Why must technology hate me). So since they took a while I’ve decided to move up the Playlist post and see how things go with the character profiles.

So for today's Firebird Event Post it's all about music. I adore music. When I read I'll always have music on in the background and often I'll choose a song that I think fits with the book that I am reading. There are 4 songs I believe really fit A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray.

Claudia Gray mentioned Breathe of Life by Florence + The Machine and after listening to this song a couple of times I can understand why this would fit A Thousand Pieces of You.

Considering that A Thousand Pieces of You deals with multiple universes I found that I was listening to Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth and Emeli Sandè as Marguerite is searching for the truth behind the beauty of the different worlds around her and also the people she is involved with. And I just seriously love this song.

When Marguerite is trying to come to terms with the death of her father and how her world has changed so drastically she is also trying to keep moving and do whatever she can to find out the truth. I believe that Just Keep Breathing by We The Kings would fit this time perfectly.

I think a general song for the book, which can be relevant for many parts, is Almost Everything by Wakey! Wakey! These lyrics “It feels bad now but it's gonna get better” resonated within A Thousand Pieces of You.

Firebird Event: Interview with Claudia Gray!

Hey Everyone!

I am very excited to share my interview with the lovely Claudia Gray, author of A Thousand Pieces of You!

Hi Claudia! I can’t tell you how excited I am to have you on my blog and how happy I am to be promoting your upcoming novel A Thousand Pieces of You!

Thank you so much for having me on your blog and helping spread the word about A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU!

How did you come up with the premise of A Thousand Pieces of You? It is quite different from your Evernight and Spellcaster series, and standalone novel Fateful.

It *is* a departure from what I've done before, but to me it feels like the kind of story I've always wanted to tell. The idea came to me during back-to-back book tours of the US and Australia -- I felt as though I were waking up in a different world every day, but always with the same people. Many of the books I read on the planes wound up informing the various universes Marguerite visits on her journeys. And I knew from the start that I was going to have SO MUCH FUN with this.

I absolutely adore the cover of A Thousand Pieces of You, how did you feel when you first saw the cover?

I was so, so happy when we wound up with a lovely cover for the book. It took a LONG TIME to nail this one; those bloggers who got ARCs know they have black covers with plain type! We had to come up with a visual concept that would communicate "different dimensions," and that turns out not to be the easiest idea to communicate via images. But the designer nailed it in the end, and I've been thrilled by the great response we've seen.

*This cover is seriously one of the most gorgeous young adult covers I have ever seen!*

As well as a beautiful cover, this novel also contains beautiful character names like Marguerite. How did you come up with character names?

Oh, I'm so glad you like Marguerite's name! I always choose names based on what their parents would have chosen -- not only is this how the vast majority of us actually get our names, but if you know something about a character's parents and those parents' expectations when the child is born, you have a bit of valuable backstory. In this book, I knew the characters would have origins with ties to many different cultures, to maximize the number of universes I could believably take them too. So Marguerite's mother is of Russian descent, but her family lived in France for a few generations between the Russian Revolution in the present day. Therefore she chose the French version of a name that has variations in many different cultures/languages. Marguerite's older sister, Josephine, has a more straightforwardly French name. Paul Markov was born in the US to parents who were recent immigrants from Russia; they went with the English form of his name, which in Russian would be Pavel. Theo's antecedents are Dutch, so forth and so on. Also, while I've always had a name or two in my previous books that I wasn't 100% sold on but never knew for sure what would be better -- not with this one. In the Firebird trilogy, everybody gets their best name!

Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what was one song that really stood out to you when writing A Thousand Pieces of You?

Always listen to music when I write! I come up with soundtracks for every book of mine, usually carrying some songs through an entire series. In the case of A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU, I came up with separate soundtracks for each universe! But there is one theme song, and I can't really explain why, but it's so so true: "Breath of Life" by Florence + the Machine was hugely inspirational during my writing process. According to iTunes, I listened to it 403 times while working on the first book alone! (I've just finished my draft of book two, and I think I'm around 650 now?) The lyrics don't particularly line up with anything in the story, but something about that hard driving determination takes me right into Marguerite's head as the book begins. That song has been huge for me.

Out of all your characters within A Thousand Pieces of You, which was the hardest to write? And also which character did you feel like you connected with the most?

Of all the characters, I would say that the one who was hardest to write is *also* the one I connected to the most -- namely, Paul. By nature he's very quiet; when he does speak, though, he can be tactless -- sometimes in hurtful ways, sometimes hilariously. Paul lacks some social skills, is what I'm saying. I relate to that so much. Too much.

That said, I really love all these guys. Even characters who appear in only one dimension have worked their way into my heart. I'm looking forward to writing stories on Wattpad about all of them.

A Thousand Pieces of You is the first of the Firebird Trilogy, are you currently writing/planning the second novel or do you have another project you are working on?

I've just finished my draft of the second Firebird novel! (And am taking notes/making plans for the third.) That said, I do have other projects in the works ... nothing I can talk about right now, but before the year is out, I hope to have lots of news to share.

*I am freaking out because the sequel already exists!!! I must find a way to access Claudia's computer/laptop*

Thank you so much Claudia for visiting my blog today!

Firebird Event: A Thousand Pieces of You Event + Giveaway

Hi Everyone!!

I am extremely excited to start off this FIREBIRD EVENT.

If you have seen me on twitter you know I am a huge fan of Claudia Gray’s upcoming book A Thousand Pieces of You. I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy from the awesome HarperCollins Australia Young Adult division (Between The Covers) and ever since I put the book down for the first time I have had it in my head. Since then I have re-read ATPoY at least 3 times!

I thought, “What should I do with all this love?” I wanted to promote this book so others could see why they should give it a chance. I was inspired by Thirteen Days of Ash & Fire: An Heir of Fire Blog Tour from Jaz from Fiction in Fiction in Fiction, Alexa from Alexa Loves Books, Rachel from Hello Chelly, Judith from Paper Riot and Katie from The Polished Page-Turners (as seen from here: ). I contacted HarperCollins YA and they were so lovely and happy to see my enthusiasm for this book and thus the Firebird Event was created!

Goodreads Synopsis:
Every Day meets Cloud Atlas in this heart-racing, space- and time-bending, epic new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray.

Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their radical scientific achievements. Their most astonishing invention: the Firebird, which allows users to jump into parallel universes, some vastly altered from our own. But when Marguerite’s father is murdered, the killer—her parent’s handsome and enigmatic assistant Paul—escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite can’t let the man who destroyed her family go free, and she races after Paul through different universes, where their lives entangle in increasingly familiar ways. With each encounter she begins to question Paul’s guilt—and her own heart. Soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is more sinister than she ever could have imagined.

A Thousand Pieces of You explores a reality where we witness the countless other lives we might lead in an amazingly intricate multiverse, and ask whether, amid infinite possibilities, one love can endure
