Goodreads Synopsis

Hell is looking for a way to break loose…

Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world's first murderer, he's plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it's killing him.

After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can't outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she's thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she's been trying to forget.

Sam strains Jax's control over his darkness, but running isn't an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge.

Review

It’s no secret to anyone who knows me on twitter that I love books by Jus Accardo. Ever since I picked up Touch I knew without a doubt that I would read anything this author would give me. So it is my great pleasure to have my first review of this blog to be Ruined by Jus Accardo.

The cover really sets off the tone of this book-dark and mysterious. And that tag line “Hell is looking for a way to break loose” is one sure fire way to drag a reader in. When I first saw the cover I was in awe and ready to read the book straight away. And it doesn’t hurt that the man on the cover is easy on the eyes!

Ruined is the first book where Jus Accardo has entered the New Adult world, and I have to say that she slides through quite easily. There is also the firm presence of being a Paranormal novel as well. Ruined is a not a typical story, it is bred from the tale of Cain-the world’s first murderer. The novel centres around two characters Jax and Samantha.  The dual point of views of these characters highlights the skill of the author to be able to create two very distinct voices both full of sharp wit, intelligence and maturity without one overshadowing the other.

Jax, our male voice, is cursed. Not just any normal curse, no he gets to have a violent, ruthless, descendant-of-Cain demon attached to him. What luck right? And to top it off this demon HATES Jax’s brother Chase-to the point of wanting to kill him! From the beginning of the novel we see that Jax had decided to move away from his hometown to protect his brother and Samantha, his one and only. One of the reasons why I love Jax was because of this selfless act. Honestly, if he had given into his demon’s demand and killed his brother his life may have been that extra bit easier but Jax doesn’t take that road. Jus Accardo has a really complex character with Jax. He is badass, protective, sweet, caring and downright sexy. But most of all noble. He returns to his home to help Samantha, the one ray of sunshine in his life of which he knows he shouldn’t try and claim back. If I could have him, Kale and Lukas (from Touch and Darker Days) I would be one very happy lady!

Now onto Samantha. Damn, what a tough cookie she is! But it’s for a good reason. I mean, after having losing your parents and then getting attacked at college, no wonder Sammy has a rock hard shell around her, leading to a less than warm reception for Jax. I love how Sammy gives Jax back all the smartass comments he throws at her, but also knows not to let him go again. Well to also make sure he knows how much he hurt her before taking him back as well. Hey a girl’s gotta protect her heart right? I am in awe of Jus Accardo’s ability to not only be able to write amazing guys but to also write ladies who you can identify with but also wish you had their kickassing (I don’t think this is a word but oh well) ability!

Things are definitely not smiles and laughs when Jax returns as he is here to help save Sammy from the someone who attacked her-because they are now invading her home life. And the real shocker is the villain-I did not see this one coming!

I have to hand it to Jus Accardo, she knows how to write a sizzling, sexy romance without it overpowering the story. There was enough chemistry between Jax and Sammy to have me rooting for their Happy Ending, but it was the not the whole story. Oh and basically the ending left my heart broken-but it’s okay, we get more books! I am so glad this isn’t a stand alone!!

The only complaint I have is that the beginning is a tad slow but that didn’t take away from the overall story.

All together Ruined is another amazing addition to the works of Jus Accardo.

5 out of 5 stars all the way!

I've Started a Blog!!

As you can probably guess by the title of this post I'VE STARTED A BLOG!!! I've been waiting to do this for so long but thought it was best to get high school out of the way before starting. I am so excited to be starting this blog and joining my fellow book bloggers out there. This blog will primarily be about all things book related and will also most likely have other little bits that I feel worth mentioning, but I really just want to have fun with book reviewing on a larger scale (I was previously reviewing on Goodreads). Things are going to look a bit bare for a while until I get the hang of things. So here is a big hello to everyone who decides to visit me here at Keep it Fictional!
